Explosive demand for new energy vehicles: application of gas-phase white carbon black in tire field surges

On July 12, 2025, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, sales of new energy vehicles reached 4.5 million units in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 52%, driving a surge in demand for low rolling resistance tires. Michelin China R&D Center revealed that its latest electric vehicle tires have increased the filling amount of gas-phase white carbon black to 35%, combined with silane coupling agent Si69, reducing the rolling resistance coefficient of the tire to 6.0N/kN (national standard requirement ≤ 6.5N/kN), while achieving A-level wet skid resistance. Black Cat Co., Ltd. has launched nano composite fillers, which mix carbon black with gas-phase white carbon black in a ratio of 3:1, reducing tire weight by 8% while ensuring wear resistance.
