Carbon footprint certification is driving transformation in foreign trade, with white carbon black companies racing to invest in low-carbon certification

(June 6, 2026) With the implementation of carbon tariffs in many countries worldwide, carbon labels and product carbon footprint certification have gradually become mandatory barriers for silica going global. The domestic silica industry is experiencing a wave of certification upgrades, with competition shifting from price competition to low-carbon qualification competition.

Currently, importers from Europe, America, and Southeast Asia prioritize verifying the carbon emissions throughout the product lifecycle when purchasing white silica. Orders for ordinary white silica, traditionally produced using soda ash wet processes and high energy consumption, continue to shrink, and carbon-free certified products face the dilemma of being removed from the procurement list. Several large and medium-sized domestic silica producers have recently invested concentrated funds to carry out energy consumption upgrades and product carbon inventory work in their factories, relying on low-carbon processes such as rice husk ash resource utilization and by-product carbon dioxide synthesis to complete carbon footprint filing.

Some manufacturers that have obtained low-carbon certification have export prices for silica 5%~12% higher than conventional products, with orders from Europe and Australia coming in steadily. Many small and medium-sized factories cannot afford the costs of carbon certification and production line upgrades, gradually abandoning overseas export markets and shifting to the domestic low-end domestic sales track, further intensifying competition among domestic general-purpose white silica.

Industry insiders revealed that overseas import access standards will continue to tighten in the second half of the year, and capacity that has not completed low-carbon technological upgrades and carbon footprint certification will continue to have export channels restricted. Pressured by policies and foreign trade markets, the silica industry has become an irreversible trend toward low-carbon and traceability.
