Recycling and reuse of white carbon black: from waste to resources

Hits: 1206 img

Recycling of White Carbon Black from Waste Tires
Every year, 1.7 billion waste tires are generated worldwide, with a white carbon black content of approximately 15% -20%. The purity of carbon black recovered by traditional pyrolysis method is low and cannot be directly reused. Langsheng Group in Germany has developed the "low-temperature plasma pyrolysis" technology, which selectively decomposes rubber at 300 ℃. The purity of the recovered white carbon black reaches 98%, which can be reused in tire manufacturing with a cost reduction of 30% compared to new materials.

Resource utilization of construction waste
The silicate in waste concrete can be extracted by alkali dissolution method to further synthesize white carbon black. China National Building Materials Group's experiment shows that 1 ton of construction waste can produce 0.2 tons of white carbon black, which can be used to prepare lightweight partition boards, with a 15% increase in strength and a 20% reduction in cost.

Policy support and business model
The EU Waste Framework Directive requires a recycling rate of 95% for waste tires by 2030. The "14th Five Year Plan" for the development of circular economy in China proposes to establish a comprehensive utilization system for industrial solid waste such as white carbon black. Enterprises can build a recycling network through the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, such as Michelin partnering with waste recyclers to achieve a closed-loop of tire production use recycling remanufacturing.
