By studying matting agents, we can divide them into two types: (i) stirring and mixing with coatings, and (ii) dispersing with pigments and fillers. The second process is easy to implement. By using appropriate equipment, pigments and fillers can be well dispersed together (high-speed dispersers, ball mills, etc ...).

When silica, paraffin or organic matter is used as a matting agent to disperse, there are three different methods that can be used: by concentration (dense color body technology) method; directly disperse during coating manufacture; or according to user requirements, in the final stage of coating construction Proceed so that the extinction can be easily adjusted.

Concentration methods have advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that the concentrate is easily available and can also be mixed by low speed agitation of the mixer. The disadvantage is that firstly, the degree of concentration of the matting agent is not high, and secondly, the solvent will volatilize from the surface of the concentrate, resulting in a decrease in the stability of the slurry-type matting agent during storage. And it will accumulate to form a semi-dry agglomerate, which is difficult to disperse when added to the coating. Finally, if the slurry concentrate contains a resin, it is difficult to be widely used.

The problem to be considered in the production of coatings is the mixing method commonly used to add matting agents. A blender or dissolver can be used to mix the soft matting agent with a low viscosity adhesive. Most matting agents are easily dispersed. For example, using a ball mill can greatly reduce its particle size and obtain higher gloss, so the use of higher doses of matting agents can adjust the required degree of matting. When adding a matting agent to adjust the final matting degree, stirring is required. The matting agent should also be easily dispersed and the stirring device should be simple. To ensure that there is enough space in the container to allow the matting agent to be poured in from the top, and to ensure that the container can be sealed to avoid dust, these are all necessary conditions in production.
