The difference between precipitation method silica and gas phase method is mainly the particle size and purity.
Precipitated silica is generally micron, and fumed silica is generally nanometer. Precipitation silica has a high impurity content, the purity is generally about 93%, and fumed silica has a very low impurity content, and the purity can reach more than 99%.
Due to the huge difference in particle size and purity, fumed silica is superior to precipitation method silica in thickening, thixotropic, anti-settling, reinforcing, extinction, and friction.
