The concept of silicone and inorganic silicon

Hits: 698 img

Silicone: Chemically refers to a compound containing a Si-C bond and at least one organic group is directly bonded to a silicon atom.
As a basic material, silicone materials are widely used in construction, electrical and electronic, textile, light industry, chemical industry and other fields.
In the field of waterproof plugging, common silicone materials are: silane, silicone resin solution, silicone resin emulsion, silicone powder, silicone acrylic emulsion, silicone sealant and the like.
The common feature of these materials is that they all have excellent hydrophobic properties. That is, all the manufacturers will use the "Lotus effect" for the demonstration.
Especially easy to be confused with inorganic silicon is what we usually call silicone water repellent. That is, sodium methyl silicate or potassium methyl silicate.
The waterproof mechanism of sodium methyl silicate (potassium) is to form a layer of insoluble water-repellent resin film with a thickness of several molecules on the surface of the substrate, which is usually diluted with 8-10 times of water when used.
Commonly used for waterproofing, antifouling treatment of building materials and waterproofing of exterior wall finishes. However, the life of this material will not last long, especially in the exposed environment of ultraviolet radiation, once the hydrophobic effect of the surface layer disappears, the waterproof performance of the material will also be invalid.

Inorganic silicon: Generally refers to a water repellent made of sodium silicate, potassium silicate or lithium silicate as the main agent and added with some additives.
In the field of waterproof plugging, common inorganic silicon materials are: permanent condensate, water-permeable permeable crystalline waterproof material, water glass and the like.
The waterproof mechanism is usually self-dehydration or formation of crystals in the pores of the concrete to block the passage, thereby improving the compactness of the concrete as well as the strength and impermeability.
