(May 17, 2026) In recent years, the domestic silica industry has gradually broken the decentralized development pattern, relying on core advantages such as raw material origin, downstream market, and transportation and logistics to accelerate the formation of diversified industrial clusters, and the regional layout has continued to be optimized. Through resource integration, upstream and downstream collaboration, and technology sharing, industrial clusters can effectively reduce enterprise operating costs, enhance the overall competitiveness of the industry, and become an important engine for promoting the high-quality development of the silica industry.
The reporter learned from the industry association that as of May 17, three major silica industrial clusters have been formed in China, namely the East China Lusu cluster relying on the advantages of quartz sand resources, the North China Jijin cluster relying on the chemical industry foundation, and the South China Guangdong-Fujian cluster relying on the downstream demand market, with a total production capacity of 2.8 million tons/year, accounting for 89.7% of the total domestic silica production capacity, and the industrial agglomeration effect is highlighted. Among them, the East China Lusu cluster relies on the advantages of high-quality quartz sand production area to focus on general-purpose and high-end silica production, accounting for 45% of the production capacity; Relying on a complete chemical industry chain, the North China Jijin cluster focuses on the R&D and production of high-end fumed silica, with leading technical level; The South China Guangdong-Fujian cluster is close to the downstream tire and high-end daily chemical markets, focusing on customized functional products, and the production and marketing connection is efficient.
The formation of regional industrial clusters is inseparable from the coordinated efforts of resource endowments, policy guidance and market demand. The Lusu region of East China has domestic high-quality quartz sand mine resources, and the transportation is convenient, which can realize the local extraction of raw materials and greatly reduce transportation costs. At the same time, local governments have introduced special support policies to improve the supporting facilities of industrial parks, attract upstream and downstream enterprises to gather, and form a complete industrial chain of "quartz sand mining, silica production, and downstream application". Relying on the mature chemical industry foundation, the Hebei-Tianjin region of North China has gathered a number of scientific research institutions and leading enterprises, with obvious advantages in industry-university-research synergy, focusing on breakthroughs in high-end silica core technologies. As a gathering place for domestic tire and daily chemical industries, the downstream demand in South China is strong, promoting silica enterprises to focus on customized production and achieve precise docking of production and marketing.
The agglomeration effect of industrial clusters has injected strong impetus into the development of enterprises and promoted the overall quality and efficiency of the industry. The reporter visited a silica industrial park in East China and learned that enterprises in the park have achieved resource sharing and complementary advantages, and jointly built raw material procurement platforms, wastewater treatment centers, and technology research and development laboratories, greatly reducing the environmental protection cost and R&D investment of individual enterprises. Among them, the "high-efficiency and energy-saving silica production process" jointly developed by two leading enterprises in the park has been comprehensively promoted in the park through technology sharing, reducing the average energy consumption of enterprises in the park by 30%, reducing production costs by 18%, and increasing the product qualification rate to 99.2%.
"Industrial clusters have allowed us to get rid of the dilemma of going it alone, and upstream and downstream enterprises can cooperate nearby, which not only reduces logistics costs, but also can quickly connect with market demand." The person in charge of a silica enterprise in the park said that relying on the advantages of clusters, the company has established a normalized communication mechanism with downstream tire companies, quickly adjusted product specifications according to customer needs, and shortened the customized order response time from 7 days to 3 days; At the same time, with the help of the technology sharing platform in the cluster, enterprises can obtain advanced production technology without investing a lot of money, accelerate product upgrades, and have launched 3 special silica products suitable for high-end tires, and the market recognition has been significantly improved.
The relevant person in charge of the industry association said that the optimization and upgrading of regional industrial clusters is reshaping the development pattern of the silica industry. In the short term, industrial agglomeration will further enhance industry concentration, reduce enterprise operating costs, and promote the coordinated development of enterprises in the region. In the long run, with the continuous improvement of cluster supporting facilities and the continuous deepening of technological innovation, it will promote the formation of differentiated development positioning of clusters in different regions, avoid homogeneous competition, and achieve "dislocation development and complementary advantages". It is expected that by the end of 2026, the industrial chain synergy efficiency of domestic silica industry clusters will increase to more than 90%, and the competitiveness of regional industries will be further enhanced.
Industry experts pointed out that regional layout optimization and industrial cluster construction are important paths for the silica industry to achieve high-quality development. Experts suggest that all localities should be based on their own resource endowments and industrial foundations, clarify the development positioning of industrial clusters, improve the construction of supporting facilities, and strengthen policy guidance and support; At the same time, we will promote enterprises in the cluster to strengthen collaborative innovation, focus on core technology breakthroughs and product upgrades, create a silica industry brand with regional characteristics, and promote the industry's large-scale, intensive and high-quality development.
