Reconstruction of regional production capacity layout The silica industry is concentrated in raw materials and port clusters

(May 14, 2026) Driven by multiple factors such as raw material supply, logistics costs, and foreign trade exports, the domestic silica industry is undergoing a new round of regional pattern reshuffle, with production bases accelerating to the main production areas of sodium silicate and soda ash and coastal port cities.

The production of silica is highly dependent on bulk chemical raw materials such as sodium silicate and soda ash, and the transportation cost of raw materials accounts for a high proportion. In recent years, the agglomeration effect of the upstream chemical industry is obvious, and the core raw material producing areas such as Shandong, Jiangsu and Southwest China have continued to implement new and technological transformation production capacity relying on the advantages of nearby procurement, and the unit production cost is significantly lower than that of inland scattered enterprises. At the same time, the coastal port area is convenient for docking overseas orders from Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East with the convenience of sea freight, and the layout of foreign trade silica projects continues to increase.

On the other hand, in inland areas, due to the long distance of raw material transportation, high environmental protection pressure, and high export logistics costs, the survival pressure of small and medium-sized silica enterprises has increased, and some inefficient production capacity has voluntarily withdrawn from the market. The industry has shifted from the decentralized model of blooming everywhere in the past to the dual-core layout of raw material base port exports, and the leading enterprises have optimized the distribution of production capacity through regional integration to achieve nearby distribution in the domestic market and direct delivery to overseas markets.

The market pattern has changed: the supply of goods in clustered production areas is stable, the cost is controllable, and the products are more competitive in domestic trade and export; Due to cost disadvantages, decentralized small factories can only participate in low-end market competition, and their profit margins continue to be squeezed. With the continuous strengthening of the cluster effect, the disorderly competition in the industry has decreased, and standardized and large-scale production have further improved the overall quality and supply stability of domestic silica.

Industry observers pointed out that in the future, the competition of silica is no longer only at the product level, but also a competition between supply chain and location advantages. Keeping up with the origin of raw materials, laying out port export channels, and improving regional supporting facilities will become an important starting point for enterprises to reduce costs and increase efficiency and expand market share, and regional differentiation will continue to promote the high-quality development of the industry.
