Application of Hydrated Silica in Rubber Industry: Performance Optimization and Cost Balance

Hits: 1053 img

The rubber industry is the largest consumer sector of hydrated silica, accounting for over 70%. Its core applications include reinforcing tires, shoes, and silicone rubber. Precipitation method white carbon black has become the mainstream filler in tire manufacturing due to its low cost and good dispersibility. Research has shown that adding 50 parts of precipitated white carbon black to tire rubber can reduce rolling resistance by 8%, improve wear resistance by 15%, and increase wet grip by 10%, helping tires meet the EU labeling method A-level standard.

Gas phase white carbon black exhibits excellent performance in silicone rubber due to its high purity and nanoscale particle size. For example, adding 20 parts of gas-phase white carbon black to high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber can increase the tensile strength from 0.4 MPa to 16 MPa and the elongation at break from 200% to 800%. However, its cost is 3-5 times that of precipitation method, which limits its large-scale application. In the future, the industry will achieve a balance between performance and cost by developing highly dispersed precipitation white carbon black and optimizing mixing processes.
