In June 2025, good news came from a new materials industrial park in the central region - the gas-phase silica expansion project with a total investment of 470 million yuan was fully completed, and with the addition of existing production capacity, the annual output of the base jumped to 40000 tons, becoming the world's largest single production base. At the same time, the 6000t/a nano powder deep processing line constructed simultaneously was put into production, marking that China has achieved a complete industrial chain layout from raw material production to high-end applications in this field.
As a national level "single champion" cultivation enterprise, the R&D team of this project has spent five years conquering chlorine cycle technology, increasing the recovery and utilization rate of by-product hydrogen chloride to 98%, and reducing single ton energy consumption by 30% compared to traditional processes. Through nanoscale surface modification technology, key indicators such as hydrophobicity and dispersibility of the product have reached the international first-line level, and have successfully entered high-end markets such as power battery separators, photovoltaic films, and aerospace sealants.
The explosive growth of the new energy vehicle industry has opened up a new blue ocean for gas-phase silica. According to calculations, each new energy vehicle requires about 2 kilograms of gas-phase silica as an adhesive thickener. The "ultra-fine particle size distribution" technology developed in this project can improve the viscosity adjustment accuracy of the adhesive by 50% and the battery packaging efficiency by 20%. In the field of photovoltaics, its developed weather resistant products extend the service life of components to over 25 years, helping the global transition to clean energy.
From a market perspective, the global market for gas-phase silica has long been monopolized by three multinational corporations, with a combined market share of over 60%. But with the technological breakthrough of Chinese enterprises, the pace of domestic substitution has significantly accelerated. In 2023, the proportion of domestic enterprises' production capacity in the global market has reached 18%, and it is expected to exceed 30% by 2030.
Analysts believe that the commissioning of the 40000 ton base not only reshapes the global supply landscape, but also drives the industry towards green and intelligent upgrading through the dual drive of "scale effect+technology premium". With the increasing voice of China's intelligent manufacturing in the global new materials field, gas-phase silica is expected to become a new business card for China's high-end manufacturing industry, injecting new momentum into the global industrial chain.
