In June 2025, a domestic new material enterprise announced that its research and development of gas-phase silica products had achieved a key technological breakthrough in the high-end coating field, successfully breaking the international monopoly. This product has achieved international standards in core properties such as thickening, thixotropy, anti sagging, and weather resistance through optimized preparation processes and surface modification technology. It also has significant cost advantages, injecting new impetus into the localization of the coating industry.
As a key rheological additive in coatings, fumed silica directly affects construction efficiency and film-forming quality. Traditional high-end coatings rely on imported materials, resulting in high costs and insufficient supply chain stability. The domestically produced gas-phase silica significantly improved the viscosity stability and anti settling ability of the coating by precisely controlling the particle size distribution and surface hydroxyl content. In the UV coating application test, the addition of this material increased the thixotropy index of the coating by 35% and showed excellent leveling performance. At the same time, its long-term weather resistance was verified through a 1000 hour UV accelerated aging test.
At present, the product has been verified by multiple coating companies and has been widely used in high-end fields such as automotive original paint and home appliance coating. Industry experts point out that this breakthrough not only reduces the production costs of downstream enterprises, but also promotes the transformation of China's coating industry towards high added value. In the future, with the deep development of gas-phase silicon dioxide in fields such as photovoltaic packaging adhesives and power battery insulation materials, its market space is expected to further expand.
