Application of silane coupling agent in composite materials

1. Thermosetting resin inorganic fillers and inorganic reinforcing materials are the most widely used composite materials with thermosetting resins. The application of silane coupling agents in this field is also the earliest and most mature.
Unsaturated polyesters were compared on glass fibers in polyester laminates using various unsaturated silane coupling agents. For most general-purpose polyesters, methacrylate-containing silane coupling agents are often used. In typical filler-containing polyester castings, the use of various fillers and methacryloxy functional silanes provides varying degrees of improvement in performance.

Epoxy Resins Many silanes are quite effective for epoxy resins, but some general rules can be found to select the most suitable silane for a particular system. The reactivity of the coupling agent is at least comparable to the reactivity of the particular curing system used in the epoxy resin. For glycidyl functional group-containing epoxy resins, it is clear that glycidyloxypropylsilane is preferred. For alicyclic epoxides or anhydride-cured epoxy resins, it is recommended to use alicyclic silanes (eg: A). -153). In practical applications, the application mechanism of silane coupling is not always clear, but can be selected in combination with application experience. For example, silanes using primary amine groups can achieve the best performance of room temperature curing epoxy resins, but not for use. Anhydride-cured epoxy resin chloropropyl-functional silane is a very reliable coupling agent for high-temperature curing epoxy resin. The methacrylate-containing silane is an effective coupling agent for dicyandiamide-cured epoxy resin. .

Phenolic resin silane coupling agents can be used to improve almost all phenolic resin-containing composites. The aminosilane can be used together with the phenolic resin binder for the glass fiber insulation material together with the resorcinol-formaldehyde resin or the phenolic resin in the resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex impregnation liquid for the glass fiber tire cord, and The furan resin is used together with a phenolic resin as a binder for a metal foundry sand core. The aminosilane is used in combination with a phenolic resin and can be used for fixing a sand layer in an oil well.

2. Thermoplastic Resin Treatment of the particulate inorganic filler with silane can significantly improve the rheological properties of the filler-containing thermoplastic resin and protect the filler from mechanical damage in high shear operations such as compound extrusion or injection molding.
The filler-containing polyethylene for the cable sheathing of the polyolefin for extrusion can be modified with silane to improve the electrical properties of the composite under wet conditions.
Thermoplastic engineering plastics are suitable for organofunctional silanes of epoxy resins and can also produce good results in nylon filled with inorganic fillers. Aminosilanes can be used in a wide variety of thermoplastics such as ABS, acetal resins, nylons, polycarbonates, polysulfones, polystyrenes, polyesters, polyvinyl chlorides, styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers, and the like.
Elastomers have been used in rubber for the treatment of carbon black, silica and other inorganic fillers for many years. Silane coupling agents have been widely used in rubber products such as radial tires, rubber rollers, and high-grade soles, and sulfur-containing silanes have become an indispensable treatment agent in these rubber formulations. Studies have shown that after the addition of silane to various types of rubber, as the bond strength increases, other properties change accordingly, and the change varies depending on the type of rubber.
