The difference and respective uses of carbon black and silica

The main differences include different properties, formation, and main uses, as follows:

1、 Different properties

1. Carbon black

Carbon black is an amorphous carbon. Light, loose, and extremely fine black powder is the product of incomplete combustion or thermal decomposition of carbon containing substances (coal, natural gas, heavy oil, fuel oil, etc.) under insufficient air conditions.

2. White carbon black

White carbon black is the general term of white powder X-ray amorphous silicic acid and silicate products, mainly referring to precipitated silica, fumed silica and ultra-fine silica gel, as well as powder synthetic aluminum silicate and calcium silicate.

2、 Forming Different

1. Carbon black

Carbon black generally refers to carbon elemental particles, which are formed due to insufficient combustion of organic matter, where hydrogen and oxygen elements are converted into water. If carbon elements are not fully burned, they will detach from the molecules and form carbon black.

2. White carbon black

Mainly using non-metallic minerals and their extensions as silicon sources, white carbon black is prepared by precipitation method. The key technology is to transform crystalline silica and silicates into amorphous silica. The main raw materials include wollastonite, opal, halloysite, olivine, serpentinite, kaolin, hard kaolin, coal gangue, fly ash, etc.

3、 Different main uses

1. Carbon black

It can be used as a black dye for manufacturing Chinese ink, ink, paint, etc. It is also used as a reinforcing agent for rubber.

2. White carbon black

① Used in colored rubber products to replace carbon black for reinforcement.

② In agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides and high-efficiency fertilizers, white carbon black is used as a carrier, diluent, or disintegrant.

③ Transparent colored and opaque toothpaste with white carbon black as filler and abrasives. This type of toothpaste has good flexibility, dispersibility, smooth and soft paste, and good abrasiveness.

④ Adhesives made from natural rubber or synthetic rubber.

⑤ Used as an anti caking agent in some products to improve free flow.
