Adsorption characteristics of white carbon black

Hits: 184 img

The surface of white carbon black has strong chemisorption, which is related to the existence of its surface hydroxyl. Its surface hydroxyl can combine with molecules in the form of hydrogen bond to form a multi-molecular adsorption layer. Moreover, with the increase of surface hydroxyl density of white carbon black, the amount of water adsorbed also increases, which can be reflected from the relationship between moisture absorption and surface area, and the adsorption amount is proportional to the surface area of white carbon black.

If the silanol group of white carbon black is far away from the hydrogen bond formed by a water molecule, a water molecule can only interact with one silanol group. However, with the increase of the density of silanol groups, each hydrogen atom of water molecules can interact with a silanol group, which means that water molecules have strong bonds.

The hydroxyl groups on the surface of silica can not only adsorb strongly with water by hydrogen bond, but also with many small molecular organic substances.

When precipitated silica is used as rubber gun filler, it will delay and retard the vulcanization of rubber. This is due to the strong chemical adsorption of its surface hydroxyl on the vulcanization accelerator containing unpaired electrons, which slows down the decomposition of the accelerator. In order to prevent this phenomenon, a certain amount of substances that can preferentially adsorb the precipitated silica hydroxyl, such as glycerin and other alcohol or triethanolamine activators, should be added during rubber mixing.

Knowing its adsorption characteristics, it can be used better. IOTA specializes in producing white carbon black. If you need it, you can contact us and we will serve you wholeheartedly.
