Metal silicon, also known as industrial silicon or crystalline silicon, is usually produced by reducing silicon dioxide from carbon in an electric furnace. Its main use is as an additive for non-ferrous alloys and as a starting material for the production of semiconductor silicon and silicone. Major domestic metal silicon companies such as Hesheng Silicon, Hubei Sanxin Silicon, Sizi Wangqi Jiahui Silicon, Yunnan Yongchang Silicon, Tianfu Silicon, Jingxin Silicon. Since metal silicon production requires a large amount of energy, energy costs account for more than 50% of the total cost. Therefore, Chinese metal silicon enterprises are more concentrated in the southwestern regions where hydropower resources are abundant, or in the northwest and northeast regions of low-cost power resources.
