In order to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Journal of disaster prevention and mitigation engineering and the 20th anniversary of its name change, Professor Chen Guoxing, an expert in soil dynamics and professor of Nanjing University of technology, especially wrote a review paper entitled "research progress of soil liquefaction assessment method" for the special issue of the 40th anniversary of its founding. In this paper, the development and evolution of soil liquefaction evaluation methods in the past 50 years are summarized. The latest progress of simplified methods for soil liquefaction evaluation is reviewed from the perspective of deterministic method and probabilistic method. Several uncertain correction factors for calculation of cyclic stress ratio and liquefaction strength are discussed. Several representative liquefaction evaluation methods are compared At the same time, the common problems in liquefaction evaluation are discussed. By summarizing the research, development and practical experience of soil liquefaction assessment in recent decades, it provides a prospect for the next generation of soil liquefaction assessment methods.
