1. Silica and Nail Polish
In nail polishes, AEROSIL fumed silica ensures uniform distribution of pigments in brighteners, prevents pigmentation, and provides rheology of the final product for improved spreadability. If the refractive index of the solvent system used is consistent with that of AEROSIL fumed silica (1.48), transparent nail polish formulations such as base and top colors can be formed. Otherwise, when used at higher concentrations, it has a matting effect, which reduces the desired gloss. Both hydrophilic and hydrophobic AEROSIL fumed silica products can be used in nail polish, and the recommended concentration of AEROSIL is between 0.25-4.0%.

2. Silica and Lipstick
In lipsticks, AEROSIL fumed silica can make the pigments evenly distributed, and can greatly improve the temperature resistance, preventing the lipstick from softening when the temperature rises. Bleeding occurs in the middle, so that the lipstick does not fade for a long time. Gloss decreases when higher concentrations are used.
Depending on the desired product characteristics, AEROSIL 200 or AEROSIL R972 can be used at a concentration of 0.25-4%. In some special formulations, such as foundation or lip balm, up to 10% of AEROSIL R972 can be used.

3. Silica and Eye Care
Many eye and face makeup products, including powders, foundations, blushes, mascaras and eyeliners, can achieve the desired properties and necessary stability with AEROISL fumed silica alone. AEROSIL fumed silica is a highly effective anticaking and free-flowing agent that improves storage stability and dispersion in powdered products. AEROSIL also enables the use of pigments in cosmetics, especially at high solids contents, and finally, AEROSIL can be used as an efficient processing aid for grinding and filtering powders.
